Trending and Tweeting at TED

It’s hard to believe that it’s now a week since I was live tweeting on behalf of the guru of empowerment, Barry Allard at the TedxNorwichEd ‘Inspiring Generations’ day at The Space, Norwich.

Having never attended such an event before, I made sure I was well prepared (3 devices fully charged, 3 chargers packed, 10 images pre-downloaded, a highlighted script with accompanying hashtags and handles at the ready– a girl can’t be too organised y’know) and ready to rock ‘n’ roll.

With a queue snaking out of the door, I was excited to see that this event was going to have a really buzzing atmosphere that would no doubt keep our Twitter presence at the forefront of the day’s trending topics.

After catching up with old friends, we settled in for a day of fascinating talks and insights from a range of inspiring speakers. Myself and Katia Shulga (Barry’s partner and co-owner of ‘The Gold in You’) tweeted throughout Barry’s speech on “The Power of Purpose” – and to all our fellow tweeters’ delight, discovered we were in the top two trending hashtags in the UK with #tedxnorwiched.

I left at the end of the day feeling uplifted from spending time learning with friends, and stuffed with good food from the lovely team at The Feed. I also felt that my own mission in business (now celebrating 6 months of trading!) is one of purpose, highlighted by Barry’s comment:

“Purpose has been fundamental to my life. I believe it is what makes us human and also what makes businesses humane.”
